When Gambling Becomes More Than A Game, No One Wins
The National Problem Gambling Awareness Week is March 7th - 13th. An innocent lottery ticket or trip to the casino can develop into a destructive financial and emotional problem similar to other addictions. This presentation by Gary Lange, Ph.D., MFT, NCGC, is for those concerned about their own gambling or a loved one. At this free, informative lecture on March 11th at 4 pm, attendees can learn more about how this progressive problem affects seniors, youth and families. Discussion will include intervention techniques that can help bring honesty and hope to those affected by gambling.
If you or a family member is concerned about a gambling problem, attend this presentation or request a FREE, confidential assessment with Dr. Lange; free assessments follow the lecture at 5:00 pm or are available by appointment. Dr. Lange is a Certified Gambling Counselor who specializes in educating and treating problem gamblers and their families. He has recently been approved as a California Problem Gambling Treatment Service Provider through the California Office on Problem Gambling which will soon be offering state funded treatment for gamblers and their families. Day Trippin' with the Golden Rainbow...
to the exquisite Getty Villa in Malibu
Ah, picture yourself in a grand Italian villa surrounded by beautiful gardens, where ancient Greek and Roman art treasures seem to be everywhere you gaze... It will be easy to turn this fantastic dream into a reality if you join the Golden Rainbow Daytrippers as we head for the unmatched splendor of the Getty Villa in Malibu on Wednesday, March 24. For the low price of $45 for GRSC members, $60 for non-members, you'll spend a fun-filled day with your GLBT pals as a luxury coach from Celebrity Tours whisks you away to this seaside villa, which recently underwent a $275 million renovation. Getty Villa in Malibu
Victorious Youth Bronze Truly breathtaking from the moment you arrive, the Getty Villa is a replica of a 2000 year-old Roman villa, which once overlooked the Bay of Naples near Pompeii, Italy. It is famous for its formal sculpture garden lined by tall, white Roman columns and surrounded by an immense crystal blue reflecting pool. Inside the museum, there are 40 exquisite galleries on two floors with rooms lavishly embellished with marble and gold. The rooms themselves are works of art as are the treasures displayed within them. Not to be missed is the very controversial bronze statue "Victorious Youth", an ancient male nude that historians attribute to Alexander the Great's personal sculptor, which was plundered by Roman soldiers around the time of Christ. Purchased by The Getty in 1977, it is now part of an international scandal and trial as the Italians want it back. The coach departs at 8 am sharp from Celebrity Tours, 4751 E. Palm Canyon Dr. in Palm Springs, and returns to the desert around 6 pm. Participants are asked to be at Celebrity Tours by 7:45 am.
This trip is now SOLD OUT and reservations are closed. Thank you for your support!

More Food More Often With Expanded Rainbow Pantry Hours
Our Food Pantry program continues to be a great success.GRSC volunteers distribute fresh meat, produce and dairy, as well as canned and dried goods, from 8 to 10 am every Wednesday, at the Golden Rainbow, 700 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way, in Palm Springs. Free food is offered to LGBT Riverside County residents in need who are age 55 or better or disabled. Proof of residency (such as a driver’s license) is needed to register on the first visit. Participants are able to fill one grocery bag each week.
Donations Welcome
While we are always grateful for your donated food items (canned and boxed non-perishables only, please), your cash contribution will go even further to feed those in need. We are able to purchase food at pennies on the dollar from the local distribution center. A box of cereal or can of tuna that costs you $2 or more is available to us for less than $1. Please consider making your gift in dollars instead of foodstuffs. We are always pleased to receive donations and the gratitude of our Food Pantry clients is immeasurable. Click on the Donate button below to contribute now.
We continue to encourage you and your friends to drop off any unused canned and non-perishable food items in your pantries. You may bring them to the Golden Rainbow Senior Center from 9 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday. We regret that we cannot accept opened items. In addition, Casswood Insurance Agency and the Desert Business Association (DBA) have teamed up to decorate, place, and service GRSC Food Pantry collection bins around the Greater Palm Springs Area. Bring your food item donations to any of the following locations:
City of Hope Resale Store, 35688 Cathedral Canyon #107, Cathedral City
Club Whatever, 36737 Cathedral Canyon Drive, Cathedral City
any DBA mixer held monthly at various publicized locations,
Q Trading, 606 E Sunny Dunes Rd., Palm Springs

Streetbar, 244 E Arenas Road, Palm Springs
